Police officers are treating a car fire in Inverness as suspicious.

Police are treating a car fire in an Inverness neighbourhood as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Benula Road, Merkinch, just after midnight today.

Police officers are continuing their inquiries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said police were called to a car on fire outside flats on Benula Road about 0.20am.

"No one was injured but the car was significantly damaged," she said.

"Officers are treating the fire as suspicious and enquiries are continuing."

Two fire appliances from Inverness were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised at 0.15am.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet. The fire was reported to be out at 0.52am.
