A MAJOR road in and out of Inverness is to close for several nights, Highland Council has warned.

The A82 will be closed between the new Torvean roundabout and the Tomnahurich roundabout for five nights next week.

The closure, which will run each night from 7pm to 6am from Monday, is linked to ongoing work as part of the latest phase of the city's West Link project.

The latest closure will enable contractors to link the Tomnahurich swing bridge control system to the new control building.

"Depending on the weather, the council’s surfacing contractor may also take the opportunity to undertake some work during these closures," said a council spokeswoman.

"Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles, public transport and for any residents or business premises within the closed section. There will be a signed diversion via Kinmylies during the closure period.

"A letter drop for local residents is under way advising them of the works and restrictions and signs giving advance notice of the closure are being erected.

"The council apologises for any inconvenience and recommends drivers follow the diversion signs and allow extra time for their journeys."
