FERRY sailings will recommence on the Ullapool-Stornoway service at 5.30pm today (Wednesday) – 48 hours after an engine fault which caused massive travel disruption.

CalMac confirmed, shortly after 3pm, that sea trials of the MV Loch Seaforth following repairs had been successful and it will resume sailings with the 5.30pm departure from Ullapool.

The ferry operator is also running additional sailings on its Uig-Tarbert service to try to ease the huge backlog of passengers and vehicles trying to sail to Lewis and Harris.

These will depart Uig at 6.30pm and 10.50pm and Tarbert at 8.40pm.
