Trade union members are being invited to get involved in the Inverness and District Trades Union Council.

Treasurer Munro Ross said the cost of living crisis has prompted renewed interest among workers in belonging to a trade union and for reviving the area’s trades union council.

Trades councils bring together representatives from different unions to work together in solidarity and to campaign on issues ranging from health and education to welfare and transport.

The Inverness and District branch is holding its annual general meeting on Thursday, November 17 in the Spectrum Centre, Farraline Park in Inverness.

It will begin at 7pm and will be followed by a general meeting which will include trade union reports and discussion, especially on various current disputes.

Mr Ross said the branch is keen to hear from unions interested in affiliating and volunteers willing to be office bearers.

Last year’s annual meeting was held online and included discussion about the region’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
