Former pupils of Inverness Royal Academy who left school more than 50 years ago are preparing to reunite at an event on September 8.

School pals from the class of 1971 will be gathering in their old school at the top of Stephen’s Brae for a reunion that will also involve a tour of the building, which now houses the Inverness Creative Academy.

The reunion had initially been scheduled for 2021, 50 years after most of the group had left the school, but organisers say that this summer is still a watershed time for the celebration, as most of those attending will turn 70 during 2023.

This year group was the last to go through the Inverness secondary school as a full six-year selective school before Inverness’s 10-year journey towards comprehensive education began in 1971.

A small group has been organising the event and contact has already been made with around 40 other ex-pupils interested in attending.

The evening event will be an informal one with many shared memories, a tour of the old school, refreshments and lots of chat. There will be a small charge for attendees to cover costs.

Anyone interested in attending should contact Ali Forbes via email on achvaneran@hotmail.co.uk by August 21.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: "There is unlikely to be another event of this kind for the class of 1971 in the future, so all pupils who left Inverness Royal Academy in that year are urged to register their interest and come along on September 8.
