John and Christine Wood opened the Pace Café at the former Ardersier primary school building after selling the former Woody’s Cafe on the Longman Industrial estate in Inverness.

Mr Wood (74) said the time had come for them both to retire.

“We’ve enjoyed running the café at Ardersier and of course it became a popular social gathering place in the village,” he said.

Wendy Kennedy, a member of staff at the café for many years, is taking over the running of the business.

Mr Wood added: “We hope locals will continue to give Wendy their support.”

Mr Wood began his career in catering with the popular Woody’s truckstop in Henderson Road after a lifetime working in the oil industry.

Now the V8 restaurant, the business continues as a thriving concern.

The couple moved to Ardersier 16 years ago where Mrs Wood runs the local heritage group.

Community councillor John Ross said: “John and Christine have done a great job with the café which is a focal point in the village.”

He added: “They have provided a great service to the community and we wish them well in their retirement.”
