From Boxing Day the Highlands will be in a Level 4 Protection Area and it is essential that all businesses are aware of the restrictions that this brings.

Covid-19 guidance is available that helps clarify what businesses are permitted to remain open in Level 4 Protection Area.

Restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars will be required to close but takeaways can still operate as normal, provided food and drink is sold for consumption off premises.

Only essential shops that have been outlined in the Scottish Government guidance can remain open. Businesses which are allowed to stay open will be expected to follow all other legal requirements, rules and guidance.

Alan Yates, Highland Council's environmental health manager, said: "With the introduction of Level 4 restrictions, it is essential that all businesses take the opportunity to read the Scottish Government guidance and take the necessary steps to comply.

"The guidance clarifies what businesses are permitted to remain open and what steps, if any, must be taken to do so. We understand the impact that these restrictions will have on many businesses, however, would urge everyone to adhere to these new restrictions and help tackle Covid-19."
