Some rail services between Inverness and Wick were cancelled this morning because of a broken down train.

RAIL passengers on the Far North rail line between Inverness and Wick were hit by "severe disruption" this morning after a broken down train cancelled services.

The Wick to Inverness trains that were due to arrive in the Highland Capital at 10.34am and 12.23pm have both been cancelled and will not be running beyond Georgmas Junction - midway between Thurso and Wick in Caithness.

And the 7.02am train from Inverness to Wick, which was due to arrive in Wick at 11.30am, will not run any further north than Lairg.

Scotrail says that "replacement transport" is in place.

"Due to a broken down train between Forsinard and Georgemas train services between Wick and Inverness may be cancelled, delayed or revised," said a spokesman. "Disruption is expected until midday."
