A flood warning has been issued for Inverness city centre by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

It has warned the area from Ness Bridge to Friars Bridge could be flooded.

A SEPA spokesman said: "A combination of high tides and high river flows mean that the flood gates between Friars Bridge and Ness Bridge will be closed. This will close the Greig Street suspension bridge and Friars Bridge underpass.

"Areas behind the River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme will be protected. Land to the riverside of these defences is at risk from flooding.

"High water level at Inverness Harbour is predicted to be around midnight tonight (at 11pm today until 2am tomorrow).

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. This flood warning is now in force until further notice.

"Your Floodline quick dial number for this area is 22414."
