Cabinet secretary for transport Mairi McAllan is set to deliver the A9 announcement.

The long-awaited statement on the dualling of the A9 will come on Wednesday afternoon and it is expected the cabinet secretary for transport will deliver it herself.

The Scottish Parliament has now confirmed that the ministerial statement by Mairi McAllan has been added to the business in the Chamber for Wednesday but it is subject to the agreement of parliament.

The revised business programme indicates the statement is scheduled for between 2.30pm and 3.20pm but these timings remain approximate and business is subject to change.

The statement was due in the autumn but failed to materialise and will now come just a couple of days before the end of the parliamentary session.

In recent days news about the A9 has been dominated by the release of cabinet papers which showed the government knew as far back as 2018 that the 2025 deadline would be missed.

MSP Jackson Carlaw welcomed the news but insisted the development would not derail the inquiry the petitions committee inquiry into the A9.

He said: “It is welcome news that the Cabinet Secretary will deliver this long awaited statement, updating Parliament on the A9 Dualling Project.

“The Committee remains committed to continuing our inquiry into the A9, on behalf of Petitioner Laura Hansler, and we look forward to seeing the detail of the statement before inviting the Cabinet Secretary to give further evidence in the New Year.”
