BREAK-ins at two popular Black Isle businesses are believed to be linked, say police investigating the crimes.

The Cromarty Brewing Company on Canon Street, Davidston, and the Egg Box Shop – a short distance outside Cromarty on the A832 – were both targeted overnight between Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3.

Various items were stolen from both locations.

The suspect is described as a white male of an average build and around 6ft tall.

At the time of the incidents, he was wearing a white baseball cap, a green/navy snood, navy coloured fleece jacket, dark worker's combat style trousers with a green pocket cover and red/black gloves. He also had a dark coloured watch on his left wrist.

Acting Sergeant Alasdair Lee, of Dingwall Community Policing, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have any information relating to these incidents.

“Although this happened through the night, we would ask if anyone noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area to contact officers.

“We believe that both incidents are linked and we would encourage members of the local community to contact police if they have any information that could assist with our investigation.

“Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 0458 of Thursday, 3 September, 2020.”

Taking to social media, the owners of the Egg Box said their automated vending machine, which was installed seven years ago after being specially imported from Europe, was damaged during the incident.

"The Egg Box machine is from Holland, costs £1000s and it will take more than two weeks to replace," said the Egg Box's Facebook page. "Apologies for the inconvenience, we will be up in running as soon as we can."

Cromarty Brewing Company, meanwhile, took to its social media channels this morning to publish a picture of its shattered office door , and advised that the shop was temporarily closed while the scene was cleaned up.

"Shop closed until further notice," they said. "Sorry folks but unfortunately someone broke into us last night!

"If anyone has seen anything suspicious please get in contact."
