A little boy who left a big impression on the hearts of so many who met him will be the focus of an evening of fun, laughter and fundraising for children with additional needs.

Leo Flett passed away at the age of four in July 2019 after courageously battling an extremely rare form of muscular dystrophy.

The youngster is remembered for his character, sheer love of life and smiles in the face of adversity, particularly during difficult spells of treatment in hospital.

Parents Louise and Mitchell Flett initially raised over £64,000 for the charity Muscular Dystrophy UK before and after Leo’s death.

They have since refocused fundraising through Leo’s Pride to MFR’s Cash for Kids charity in an effort to secure life-changing specialised equipment for the families of young people with additional needs.

Leo’s legacy to date is a fundraising total now topping an incredible £100,000 since Leo’s pride was set up in 2018.

The latest event is set for the Kingsmills Hotel on Saturday September 10, the third Party with the Pride event.

Already it is sold out with 210 set to attend on 22 tables.

“It is the largest number we’ve had since we began holding these events, which is amazing in the current financial climate,” Mrs Flett said.

“When you are a parent of a child with additional needs you just do everything you can to try and help make their lives better.

“Equipment is so important and it is never as simple as just popping down to the shops to get a bed, high chair or a car seat.

“There are so many processes and application forms for funding to go through and it can take weeks for a piece of equipment to reach your home.

“For anything specialised, you are adding thousands of pounds to the costs for families that might usually run into hundreds.

“Cash For Kids were a lifeline to us in our time of need and supports so much more than people sometimes realise, including specialised equipment.”

For the first time, the Party with the Pride event has been backed by sponsorship from local companies, covering event costs and ensuring all contributions by those attending go to the charity.

Main sponsor Caley Timber is joined by the firms Tailormade Moves and Innes & Mackay, while Springfield Homes has sponsored updated marketing materials.

The evening at the Kingsmills will feature a three-course meal, live music from City Limits, an auction and other entertainment.
