A BOY is helping to bring his community together by printing his own daily newspaper.

Ewan Karim (9), from Cherry Park in Balloch, has been writing, printing and selling The Daily Page to neighbours at 30p a copy to raise money for Inverness Foodbank.

While production pre-dates the Covid-19 outbreak, the impact the virus is having has given fresh impetus to his work.

“I have been putting together a newspaper every day,” he said. “It includes news, pictures, recipes, games, facts, jokes, cooking and crafts.

“I have been selling it outside the front door and people who are passing can pick up a copy and leave the money to pay for it.

“I set up a charity a while back after I saw people living on the streets in Inverness. It is called the Homeless Club – I have been raising money and taking it to the food bank.

“So when coronavirus happened, I wanted to make sure I was continuing to do work for my charity.”

Ewan’s mum, Sarah Smith, said production of the paper was keeping him busy during lockdown.

“I am doing an hour-long exercise class in the morning and by the time I am finished, Ewan has The Daily Page ready to go,” she said. “We print it out and he then colours it in. I am very proud of him, he is doing most of it himself.

“As part of the news, Ewan is writing an ongoing story about World War II, and people seem to be enjoying reading that every day.”
