Boxing Day sales in Inverness city centre had a different feel to it today, with several premises still closed for the festive holidays.

Thousands of shoppers were still drawn to the high street and Eastgate Shopping Centre, but usually busy hubs like Rose Street retail park and the Victorian Market were quieter due to businesses reopening later in the week.

Among sites seeming to enjoying bustling Boxing Day trade were Lush, Pandora, Loch & Larder's eateries and several city centre pubs.

Shoppers will have to wait until tomorrow for premises like Next, Marks & Spencer, Smyths as well as Poundland, Starbucks and Costa to reopen.

One shopper said: "I love the sales and I came into town to get away from the kids – but ended up buying them treats from The Entertainer!

"I can't remember being at the Boxing Day sales before and not having a look in Next so I'll have to come into town again later this week. It does feel a bit strange though when one end of the shopping centre has the shutters down on Next and the other has the shutters down on M&S!

"But there's still a nice buzz about the place."
