MONTHS of gruelling training have paid off for some of the country's most sculpted athletes.

Twenty-nine competitors strutted their stuff at the Ironworks in Inverness, in the third annual International Bodybuilding and Fitness Association Highlands and Islands Classic.

In a hard-fought contest, Kevin Scott, from Wick, was named overall men's winner while the women's prize went to Paula Taylor, from Kilwinning in Ayrshire.

Mr Scott also won the Mr Highland title while Miss Highland was Hannah MacLellan, from Inverness.

Show promoter Gavin Laird, who owns the Forge Gym in Inverness, said the competition was particularly impressive this year.

"What was particularly great was to see that the level of competition had definitely improved on previous years as has the standard of local athletes," he said.

"I think the fact that we have this competition every year really gives local bodybuilders something to aim for."
