The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is launching a new community sessions in a bid to bring blood donation into more Inverness communities.

It takes place at Merkinch Community Centre on Thursday and will be followed by a session at Smithton Church on October 10. There are currently plenty of appointments available, and both can be booked online at scotblood.co.uk, or by calling 0345 90 90 999.

Every donation can be split into three separate parts: plasma, platelets and red cells. This means that every precious donation can potentially save or improve the lives of up to three people.

SNBTS head of territory Dr Sylvia Armstrong Fisher said: “Kind-hearted Highlanders have helped to save or improve the lives of over 13,000 people this year, giving over 4400 donations at Inverness Donor Centre.

“However, Highland region as a whole has the smallest panel of new donors who have donated – 3680 over the last year compared to 6433 in Tayside and 6842 in Aberdeenshire. The service would very much like to increase these numbers, and as Inverness is one of the fastest-growing cities in Scotland, we really want to bring more donation sessions to more people.

“Inverness Donor Centre is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you’ve never given blood before or haven’t given in a while, the team would love to welcome you.”
