Black Isle Show sponsors revealed as event details unveiled

THE main sponsor for this year’s Black Isle Show has been confirmed.
Black Isle Farmers’ Society announced that the Inverness and Elgin, and Dingwall and Thurso, branches of NFU Mutual are the main sponsors of the event.
President Tom Henderson said: “The Society is delighted that the local branches of the NFU continued their support for the show, following on from the introduction of headline sponsorship in 2022.”

A spokesperson for the NFU Branches said “The Elgin & Inverness and Dingwall & Thurso Agencies are once again proud to be the headline sponsors of the Black Isle Show in 2024.
“The show is a real highlight in the farming calendar for many within our area and it is a privilege for the agencies to be able to continue to support the show for the third year running. We will be in our usual position at row G with catering for our clients and members once again provided by Forbes Farm Fresh.
“We will be on hand all day to answer any queries you may have around insurance or NFU Scotland membership. We look forward to seeing everyone there and we wish the show every success for 2024.”
Plans coming together
The plans are coming together for the 185th annual Black Isle Show being held on the Mannsfield Showground in Muir of Ord.
This year the preview event takes place on Wednesday, July 31 with the gates opening at 4pm. Show day is Thursday, August 1 with gates opening at 8am.
Premium lists, schedules and entry forms will be circulated to previous exhibitors and will be available on our website, and the society looks forward to welcoming both previous and new exhibitors to the show.
President Tom added that the society is delighted to be bringing back a Heavy Horse Turnout Championship, which will be in the main ring on Thursday, and this will provide a wonderful spectacle.
This is described as “an exciting new addition” to the Black Isle Show. The last time a heavy horse turnout class was on the showground was 25 years ago.
He said a number of teams have been recruited for the charity tractor push which takes place on Wednesday night. There a few spaces left and these can be from any walk of life, they need to nominate a charity or local good cause, for prize money to be donated to.
Teams of five are required, four to push and one to drive. He urged anyone who can muster a team and has a favourite charity or local good cause to contact the show office either by email or phone for an application form.
This year the along with the Heavy Horse Turnout Championship the main ring attraction sees Steve ‘Showtime’ Colley perform in the main ring. This show consists of one of the world’s best trials riders performing freestyle tricks and spectacular stunts, 7ft vertical step and his unique ‘mono bike’ trick.
There is lots to see at the show including Show Jumping finals on Wednesday evening in the show ring and a sheepdog demonstration. The popular and colourful flower show opens after judging being held earlier in the day.
Thursday sees the livestock competitions which start early in the morning at 8am. The companion dog show was reintroduced in 2022 and makes a return this year.
Entry forms for this are available on the day from noon with the dog show judging taking place at 1pm. Classes for this can be found on the website.
Cookery demonstrations take place in the Food and Craft Hall and Bertie’s Barn. There’s also the chance to get close to some animals in Bertie’s Barn.
