Crowds flocked to the Muir of Ord showground for a preview night on Wednesday. One of the highlights was a display by dogs from Highland Agility and a competitive tractor pull – with four heats, entertaining commentary and an impressive display of brawn – was a big hit.

It was won by a team from NFU Scotland in a closely contested final but Team Hospice, made up of a group of friends from Easter Ross, came in second.

Away from the ring entertainment, prizes were handed out in the flower show tent.

Work on crofts and fields across the Black Isle ground to a halt yesterday for the opening of the show, which was billed as bringing all the fun of the farm to the Mannsfield site.

Celebrating its 180th year, numerous events were themed to tie in with the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017.

All the usual attractions were on show including the livestock parade, more than 300 traders and stall-holders, the craft and food hall and the funfair and speciality bars and beer tents.

The crowds were wowed by the flame-throwing Backdraft Fire Engine.
