THE operator of a ferry linking the Black Isle and Easter Ross has flagged the likelihood of short-notice cancellation today due to conditions.

Highland Ferries runs the link between Cromarty on the Black Isle and Nigg in Easter Ross.

Challenging tidal and wind conditions prompted the warning today.

It posted: "With low tides we currently can’t get cars on. For the next few hours it’s foot passengers and cyclists only and with a strong easterly wind supposed to be increasing as the day gets on it is likely we will have to cancel. We will carry on as long as possible, but likely to cancel at short notice."

Despite a glorious start to the day in many places, a weather warning is in place.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over parts of the UK on Saturday.
