Black Isle and Inverness Macmillan Cancer Support Golf Day raises an incredible £17,000
Tens of teams aligned bright and early for a golf tournament that commenced last week in aid for raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The day began bright and breezy for all of the 17 teams who had travelled from around the Highlands to Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club.
Moira Anderson was the oldest member of the team and got the day started off to a fantastic start, with the help of Chairperson, Andrea Jack.
Moira has fund raised for over 40 years, as she has participated in many activities that have helped the charity raise thousands of pounds in much needed funds.
With the help of all those who participated in the tournament, in addition to the businesses that jumped on board, they raised over £17,000 on the day, which was way over their expectation.
After a gruelling day competing in grim weather, the teams headed back to the Club House for a two course meal, where a few words about MacMillan’s work were given by David Naismith, manger of Fundraising For Scotland, who travelled from Stirling to be at the event.
Annette MacArthur had the pleasure of handing out the team prize which went to The Alba Service and Supply Team, that was captained by Philip Taylor.
Soon after, Liam Christie took to the stage for a raffle and auction with his usual 'flair and banter' raising over £8000.
The MacMillan Group wished him well with his own fundraising for The Highland Hospice, Ness Factor Competition.
Jennifer Morrison said: "MacMillan Cancer Support Black Isle And Inverness Group were delighted to hold their inaugural Golf Day at the stunning Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club last week, coinciding with The MacMillan Coffee Morning.
"They have to thank so many for their support, including their sponsor, Caley Timber and Building Supplies Ltd , who ensured that all the money raised went to MacMillan."
She continued to thank Mike MacDonald and his team at The Golf Club for all their support and hard work on the day.
The Black Isle and Inverness group intend to hold another Golf Day next year around the same time, with the optimism that the weather will be kinder to the golfers.
