A TRIAL aimed at stopping commercial bins from cluttering up Inverness city centre comes into force next week.

Businesses are being reminded that the new trade waste arrangements will take effect from Monday.

The move follows approval of the trial by the Inverness City Area Committee late last year.

“From Monday onwards no trade waste containers will be permitted to be stored on public pavements or streets outwith designated uplift windows,” warned a council spokeswoman.

“If the waste is not collected within this agreed period the business must return it to their premises.

“All bins must also display the business name and collection time and waste may only be placed out for collection when the business is staffed, and never overnight.”

The council has launched a dedicated web page aimed at providing further details for those affected. Visit www.highland.gov.uk/InvernessCityTradeWaste

It also held free workshops in early February to help businesses prepare for the requirements of the new policy.

Those businesses which fail to follow the new rules will be see their bins stickered in the early weeks.

The council plans to evaluate the success and impact of the trial in 12 months’ time. An update would then go before the City of Inverness Area Committee.
