Motorcyclist fined £750 at Inverness Sheriff Court after performing a 'wheelie' on the A9 near the Kessock Bridge

A £75,000 a year offshore oil worker performed a "wheelie" as he drove his motor bike to Inverness to register the birth of his son.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that police were on mobile patrol approaching the Longman roundabout near the Kessock Bridge on September 4 last year.
Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that they saw 34-year-old Alexander Macdonald on his machine driving from the Kessock Bridge in the opposite direction.
Mr Urquhart said: "He was on the other carriageway and officers saw that he had only one wheel on the ground.
"He was stopped and asked why he did it. He replied: ' that was not a wheelie, I accelerated harshly and the front wheel came off the ground."
Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said his client, who is a father of three, was travelling to register the birth of his new son.
“He accepts it was a stupid stunt.” Mr Gowans added.
Macdonald of Bellfield Drive, North Kessock, was originally charged with dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of careless driving by travelling on one wheel when overtaking.
He was fined £750 and had his licence endorsed with seven penalty points.
