An Inverness school is hosting a film night with a focus on biking adventures this weekend.

The event hopes to raise more money for the Cycle Hub at Inverness Royal Academy, which has plans to develop a mountain bike skills loop within the school grounds.

The club is affiliated to Scottish Cycling and takes pupils on their own adventures outside school to encourage independence and boost their confidence.

Among the films on show will be What Would Mary Do? which tells the tale of the Adventure Syndicate replicating a journey taken by a free-spirited young woman in 1936 who cycled from her home in Glasgow around the Highlands to Skye.

The Trash Mob tells the story of the pioneers of the TrashMob Academy – Trash Free Trails that aims to improve self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing in young people, with outdoor physical activity as a catalyst for change.

Among the other films on show is Highland2Holyrood which traces the journey of four local children who cycled from Inverness to the Scottish parliament with their mothers last summer to raise awareness of the environmental crisis and to speak to MSPs about their future.

PE teacher Jane Chisholm said: “I have collected together some of my favourite short films which showcase the power of the bicycle and the outdoors to make a difference to individuals and communities – from the awesome Trash Mob learning to look after their local trails, to the inspiring ladies of the Adventure Syndicate following the 1936 journey of Mary and her sisters from Glasgow to the Highlands.

“All proceeds go to the Cycle Hub which encourages our young people to challenge themselves, develop their confidence and explore nature while riding bikes and adventuring together.”
