New Hi-Bike stations in Inverness set to boost city e-bike sharing network

THREE new stations of a popular Inverness e-bike sharing scheme are now open.

Hi-Bike, the scheme aiming to boost active travel in the city with electric bikes, has expanded with new stations at Charleston Community Centre, Hilton Leisure Centre and Culloden Library.

The scheme, which celebrated its first anniversary this October, has seen users cycling more than 14,500 miles last year.

Vicky Trelford, Active Travel officer for HiTrans, said: "We have three new stations and 20 new bikes which we are introducing to more residential areas,, which is really exciting.

"It will make it so much easier for people to go around the city.

"We had a few people here at Charleston in the first hour, and we have been giving away free monthly memberships and people have been really receptive and taking those up too.

"Already people are using them and making their way around the city. "

This adds to the three existing stations and 30 bikes, with charging points at Great Glen House, Inverness Railway station and Inverness Campus.

An adult mambership is £10 monthly or £65 annually, with £25 deposits which are blocked on the subscriber's account.

People can also pay per ride (£2 for the first 30 minutes) or get a £6-worth three hour pass.
