Nairn Connects Business Improvement District (BID) is looking for more people to join its team.

The organisation was set up in 2018 with the principle aims of making Nairn a place people want to visit and shop and a more attractive place to do business.

It is a member organisation run by a board and as well as seeking new board members, Nairn BID also needs a new chairman to replace outgoing leader Peter Gibson who has taken a new job opportunity which will see him living away from the area.

Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Nairn BID and getting involved in the many projects and initiatives that we have under way and those that we want to get off the ground as we hurtle towards 2022.

“Nairn BID was voted in by the businesses in 2018 and we have achieved so much. Before the pandemic we had a strong events schedule which put the spotlight on the town, and these are now starting to come back.

“We have also been able to secure funding from external sources which has seen us improve many things in the town such as signage, the installation of more picnic benches and the introduction of a paint grant which saw many BID members being able to tidy up their shop fronts.

“It’s a busy organisation, but all of these projects do not get done on their own. It needs a strong board to drive it forward and to support myself and Iona Gibson who make up the BID’s team. It’s important to note that the BID really can achieve things due to its structure, having a guaranteed income stream and staff.”

The BID board currently has eight members and they represent different sectors in the town.

Mr Gibson of West End Concept said: “The decision to step down was made with a heavy heart, but I know it was the right thing to do.

“During my time as chairman, a lot has been achieved and I am proud to have been part of it all.”

He said the job offer would see him being away from Nairn for some time and added: “It didn’t feel right to continue in the role. In the meantime, I will remain a director. As a fellow local business owner, I encourage other business owners to come forward.”

Anyone who is interested in taking up a position of director on the board should contact Lucy Harding on manager@nairnconnects.com
