AN organisation which provides bereavement support for children and young people living in the Highlands has received a grant of £10,000.

Crocus Group, which operates as an independent project within Highland Hospice, was given the money by MFR Cash for Kids.

The services of Crocus Group are available free of charge to young people living with grief, regardless of their location or the cause of their bereavement.

Staff and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds contribute to the work of Crocus Group, all with a shared focus on the needs of young people as individuals within a family.

Service manager Hannah Lind said: “We are absolutely delighted and so grateful to receive this grant from MFR Cash for Kids.

“We will be spending it on art and craft materials, transport costs allowing clients from outwith the Inverness area to access our services, and a residential stay for up to 12 clients and three staff members.”

She added: “The death of someone close to the child can be a time of great sadness, distress or confusion.

“There may be unanswered questions about what has happened, and the grief of other family members can make it hard for the child to talk about their feelings.

“While many children and families will be able to manage their loss without targeted support, we are here to provide help and advice where it is needed.

“This will be hugely beneficial to the children and young people who make use of our service, and we can’t convey enough how grateful we are to receive this generous donation.”

Lyndsay Rose, from MFR Cash for Kids, said: “We are so pleased to be able to award this grant to the Crocus Group.

“We are well aware of the outstanding work Hannah is doing and how vital it is for these young people to be given a chance to explore their emotions.

“This is exactly what MFR Cash for Kids is about – giving children in our community a brighter future.”
