A number of businesses in Nairn are once again throwing their weight behind a campaign which encourages people to shop locally.
Fiver Fest, which is run by traders’ group Totally Locally, asks businesses to give £5 offers to their customers and Nairn businesses have hopped on board for a third time.
The event previously took place last October with Nairn’s Airts & Pairts tours and arts management company among those taking part this time round, with a tour around the town available for just a fiver.
Elle Tyler, who owns the company with husband Daniel, said: “The current situation is very challenging for small independent businesses, especially when your customers usually come from all over the UK and the world to explore the beauty of our area.
“The town can always use a bit more footfall and the Fiver Fest is such a great way to make this happen.
“We wholeheartedly support Totally Locally’s philosophy and of course, we miss what we love doing – sharing our love for Scotland and its history, landscape and people with others.”
She added: “We noticed that there is a huge interest amongst local people for history and stories and it happens on a regular basis that local residents who join one of our tours tell us that they had never noticed certain features of their town.
“So, being a tourist in your own backyard, or, as Visit Scotland put it, a #hametowntourist, is definitely possible – just slow down a wee bit and keep your eyes open.
“We think that Fiver Fest is the perfect opportunity to offer a walking tour of Nairn for Nairn.”
Other businesses in the town which are getting involved are: Brambles Boutique, British Red Cross, Café Lavender, Castle Jewellers, Coast Candle Co, Crafty Wee Birdie Gift shop, The Flower Shop, Ink & Pink, Kettle & Cafetiere, Love Preloved, The Nairn Wool Shop, Pat Fraser, Strachan’s, Swansons, The Sun Dancer, Uncle Bob’s Bar and Wendy’s Hoose,
Fiver Fest began on Saturday and will run until June 26.
Nairn BID manager Lucy Harding said: “Despite having a turbulent year the businesses have once again shown their resilience and have put their thinking caps on to make Fiver Fest a success.
“The fact that businesses commit to this year on year must prove initiatives like these do work.
“From speaking to businesses that have taken part the last two times we have supported the campaign, there is evidence to show that these offers do drive footfall.”
