There was a steady start to this year's Boxing Day sales in Inverness this morning.

Mother and daughter Meriel and Ailsa Deans had travelled all the way from Edinburgh to the Highlands to visit Ailsa's granny.

Ailsa said she had bagged a bargain and added: "Mostly I came here for Lush. I got a half price snow fairy."

However numbers seemed lower than in previous years.

Jackie Cuddy, the manager of Eastgate Shopping Centre, said that between 1pm and 2pm there were 300 cars in the car park compared with more than 1000 at the peak time on Friday.

She added: "New Look had a better Boxing Day than last year."

Experts had been predicting footfall would not be as great as they had been previously and the city centre was a lot busier on Christmas Eve.

Another factor could have been the wintry weather might have deterred people who may have put off their trip until tomorrow when the Next sale is due to start at 6am.
