Award-winning bakery chain, Harry Gow, is planning to open a new shop and hot food takeaway in Inverness.

It has lodged a planning application for alterations and change of use at the former Thrifty Car Hire unit in Harbour Road.

The bakery – whose headquarters are based in Smithton Industrial Estate – is famed for its giant dream rings.

The application, submitted to Highland Council, outlines proposals to create a preparation area along with a bakery sales area.

It will be Harry Gow's 19th retail outlet situated across Inverness, the Highlands and Moray.

Last year, the company opened its first shop in Aviemore.

Harry Gow has won various awards including being crowned the first Scottish Baker of the Year in 2012, a title it won again in 2019.

Its products are also found in stores across the north of Scotland including the Co-op, Morrisons and Asda.
