A baby loss, counselling and support charity’s Highland arm will be officially launched in Inverness this evening.

Held In Our Hearts’ Highland bereavement support service already provides a peer supporter and a counsellor, with NHS Highland offering automatic referral for parents and families in need.

Supported by the Glen Mhor Hotel and Apartments, also now has a dedicated counselling room where those who have lost a child can gain advice, information, empathy and understanding from peers who have been through similar experiences.

The charity is now hoping to expand to other parts of the Highlands.

A coffee afternoon was arranged for between 3pm and 5pm this afternoon at the Glen Mhor, ahead of an evening launch from 7-9pm.

All parents, families, health professionals and businesses interested in offering corporate support are welcome to attend.

Chief executive Nicola Welsh said: “We have provided support as a charity for over 40 years in different parts of Scotland, but it really became apparent during the pandemic that a lot of individuals and families in the Highlands were in need of what we offer.

“Our Indigo Room at the Glen Mhor Hotel enables us to see families in person, as well as online.

“Very often talking to somebody who has been through the same experience in losing a child is the only voice that can really help at such a difficult time.

“It can be a real source of hope to know that the person they are talking to has managed to cope and progress.

“No one should be alone after their precious baby dies and we will do all we can to walk with families, providing person-centred and flexible care for as long as is needed.”
