A heroin dealer caught by police during a raid on an Inverness property has been told to carry out 150 hours of unpaid community work.

Darren Wardrop (35), of Lochalsh Road, was also to remain under 18 months of social work supervision by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald when he appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court.

The court had been told that his home was searched by police on July 10, 2019. He was found to have £1730 in cash, scales with traces of diamorphine detected on them and plastic wrappings to be used for packaging the class A drug.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said no actual drugs were found during the search but that Wardrop, who appeared from custody, admitted being concerned in the supply.

When asked by police about this he replied “aye, guilty”, the court heard.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said: "He has not been a persistent offender but his offending is drug related. He turned to drugs as a coping mechanism after an unfortunate upbringing.

"He is making very good progress as far as his drug misuse is concerned."
