HIGHLAND baker Ashers has made it to the shortlist of the 21st World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.

A judging day in Dunfermline saw produce from across Scotland assessed on its appearance, quality, consistency and taste by a panel of more than 60 professional judges.

“Over 75 professional pie makers entered over 450 of their best products into 11 categories this year and the competition has been fierce, so Ashers Bakery Ltd can be proud to have come this far,” head judge Ian Nelson said. “The winner of the scotch pie category will be declared world champion.”

Managing director Alister Asher said: “Our scotch pies are still among our best sellers and are a delicious treat, particularly at this time of year. The awards have been a real boost to the independent bakery sector since their introduction 20 years ago and many of our savouries have received awards in that time.”

The winner will be announced on January 14.
