The 96 elderly residents and staff at an Inverness care home tucked in to an unexpected Easter treat today.

Robert McKendrick, whose 85-year-old mother Florence stays at Culduthel Care Home, was behind the surprise.

The owner of Inverness Computer Centre said: "The kindness, warmth and level of care for my mum has been extremely heartwarming.

"With that in mind, I decided to buy a chocolate Easter egg for each resident and staff member.

"I went along to Asda, explained my mission, and hoped that such a bulk buy might earn me a discount.

"But it turned out even better, for when the manager heard, and realising that this care home was close to the store, he offered to donate all the eggs – which was a wonderful gesture."

Mr McKendrick and his nine-year-old son John collected the eggs and took them to the care home to be distributed, where the gift was warmly received.

"It was a nice surprise for the residents, nurses and kitchen staff to be able to enjoy an Easter egg apiece, thanks to Asda's generosity," he added. "Our thoughts are with all care home residents and staff at this difficult time."
