A WOMAN who re-imagines old furniture has joined with a nail and make-up artist to transform a drab drawer unit into a bespoke piece of furniture to raise funds for a local mobile sensory room for children.

Jane Lane is known as a "furniture flipper" and her husband Jon runs the Out There Mobile Sensory Room for children mainly on the autism spectrum, visiting schools throughout Inverness, Nairn and Moray.

A full-time NHS employee, Jane has a sideline gathering old and tired pieces of furniture which she transforms into something special which would take pride of place in any home.

She runs Flipping ‘eck Nana from the family home in Cawdor and teamed up for the project with Jody Smith, owner of The Nail Palette at her Cawdor Road studio, where she is a regular customer.

When she asked Jody if she would like to collaborate on something bigger – a piece of furniture – she jumped at the chance.

The result is an amazing fundraising piece which will soon be raffled online with all the money raised going to add a new sensory wall in her husband’s mobile sensory room.

Jody, a multiple award-winning nail and make-up artist, soon turned the unit into something quite stunning, her bold design, bright colours and wild imagination helping to create a true one of a kind design.

“Usually I’m restricted with my designs by the size of a fingernail, but with this, I was able to go wild and use a number of different media. I loved it,” Jody said.

Jane added: “I love Jody’s artwork on nails and thought she would produce something special, but never imagined it would turn out so fabulous.”

The drawers are currently on show in Jody’s nail studio.

Jon Lane, who has 25 years of experience in social work, said: “Jody is a tremendous talented young lass.

“Her work is Hollywood standard and Jane was having her nails done one day and asked if she fancied trying something bigger.

“The results are amazing and the proceeds will go towards a heat-reactive panel on the wall of the room that the kids can paint.

“They will love it and we are so grateful to Jody for doing this for us.”
