AN Inverness art lecturer has sold out at a prestigious exhibition after becoming the first Scottish artist to be accepted in all the five UK royal academies.
Internationally-renowned artist Frank To, who is a resident lecturer at Inverness College UHI, is the only Scottish artist to date who has achieved sold-out exhibitions in the Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Ulster Academy, Royal West of England Academy and Royal Scottish Academy.
Most recently, he has sold out at the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy, Wales.
Mr To said: “For me, I cannot believe that I have managed to achieve this royal flush by having my work sold out in these academies. But what’s more overwhelming is the fact that I have been highly commended in my mastery with drawing, especially with gunpowder, which has a high risk of failure rate.
“To now be known as the only Scottish artist this year to have done all the royal art academies’ exhibitions and to have sold out is amazing. I suppose that in a way, I wanted to see how far I could push myself both mentally and physically. Now I’m looking to my next challenge which I will hopefully announce shortly.”
Mr To has gained international recognition due to his works with gunpowder and items will be on show at the Royal Cambrian Academy until February 8.
