Organisers of a Nairn art exhibition have raised more than £3000 for the British Red Cross Ukraine appeal.

They want to thank all of the artists who donated their work to the Supporting Ukraine Art Exhibition.

They raised a total of £3388.32 and the money has been donated to the Red Cross to help support Ukraine.

It was held at the Wasps Studio, in Grant Street, and spokeswoman Emily Coulson said: “The Supporting Ukraine Exhibition was put together after watching the horrific situation in Ukraine unfolding and feeling I needed to help.

“Being an artist, I thought, I have artwork and a space therefore I could put on an exhibition with some of my work for sale, then donate the money to the Red Cross Ukraine Fund, because they have developed the infrastructure to deal with some desperate situations.

“Having asked my colleagues in the studios if they would like to put a piece of work in, Gilyan Noble suggested other artists in the area might also like to contribute.

“Very kindly she asked people she knew and members of the wider community if they would like to be part of this exhibition.

“As word spread about the event we found both amateur and professional artists were keen to donate pieces.

“Initially it was felt the artist should retain 25 per cent of the sale, to cover some costs such as for framing, however, every artist insisted 100 per cent of the sale go to the charity.”

The exhibition was put up over a four-day period.

Ms Coulson added: “I could see the situation in Ukraine escalating so it had to be opened quickly.

“Everyone stepped up to the challenge, and in doing so, I would like to say a huge thank you to all who donated their work and supported the event.”

The artists who contributed were Illona Morrice, Judith Sutherland, Deborah Hart, Sheena Mitchell, Janice Fleming, Gilyan Noble, John Nicolson, Kenneth LeRiche, Linda Smith, Rachel Fermi, Emily Coulson, Eliza Coulson, Eric Jones, Sharon Elizabeth Marshall, Marion Timperley, Phil Brown, Marcus Butler, J Carter, Kathleen Farnham, Carol MacLean, Anne Pirie, Marie Rochford, Jacqui Grigor, Carol Slawson, Trish Hossach, Grace Gordon, Mary Collier, Sandris Masons Sanch, Frank To, Stewart Brown, Francis Hendry, Maria Olsthoorn, Roderick Scoltart, Joyce Vaughan, Catriona Coghill and Eve’s Scrap Art.

Ms Coulson said she also wanted to thank the many people who came and supported this cause by buying artworks and having a “blether”.

She added: “Thank you all so much for making this such an incredible exhibition. All money has now been donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Fund.”
