Raffling off the work online has already raised more than £1300 to help those in need.

Reina Edmiston (33), a business development coordinator at Inverness College UHI, decided to produce the artwork and offer it for sale when she saw what was happening in Ukraine

Art lovers have until Monday to be in with a chance of winning her latest creation, with all proceeds from the raffle going to the Kyiv-based Bright Kids charity.

“The response has been fantastic,” she said.

“I do a very small part, I just paint a picture, I do nothing as it’s the people that are putting their hands in their pockets and donating to the charity.”

Ms Edmiston said that, as she watched events unfolding in Ukraine in recent days, it was the thought of how children in need would be affected that played most on her mind.

“It’s always, in these situations, that the vulnerable suffers the most,” she said.

“It’s thanks to the donations of many kind people that this charity can continue their vital work in these horrendous times.”

In ordinary times Bright Kids focuses on providing healthcare and education primarily to children with disabilities.

According to its website the Russian invasion of Ukraine has displaced more than 400,000 people this week.

Ms Edmiston, who lives in the Hilton area of Inverness, said: “Children with disabilities and their families cannot travel hundreds of kilometres in the harsh cold and poor conditions to escape advancing troops.

“The charity has subsequently been working with families to provide urgent high-nutrition food, hygiene supplies and medical equipment.

“They are an incredibly small charity but are verified by Global Giving and their statement of accounts etc can be seen for the last three years.

“Their staff are currently safe in Kyiv and remain operational to continue to provide support. Their ethos is ‘No Child Left Behind’.”
