ARTIST Frank To and his innovative gunpowder art technique has been accepted into the Royal Society of British Artists 2019 exhibition in London.

He is one of seven Scottish artists whose work has been selected out of 1800 entries this year.

The Inverness College UHI art lecturer has also been accepted as a professional artist member in the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA).

Mr To's unique art is garnering him international recognition as a leading contemporary artist among art critics and high-profile collectors alike, including actor Sir Patrick Stewart.

“I take my role as an art lecturer at Inverness College UHI very seriously, but it’s important that I continue to challenge myself as an artist, both mentally and physically," he said.

"I use my gunpowder work to both challenge and contribute the actual craft of contemporary drawing. As I am trained traditionally, I am showing innovation in art drawing process that is rarely sought by many artists today which is unfortunate.

“I am delighted to be accepted in the Royal Society of British Artists exhibition and elected as a professional artist member of the SSA.

"I am humbled for these opportunities especially after exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal West of England Academy, Royal Ulster Academy and Royal Cambrian Academy in a short period of time.”

The Royal Society of British Artists exhibition runs from July 4-14.
