A city centre betting shop could be turned into an amusement arcade if planners give the proposal their backing.

Intervision Gaming (UK) Limited has applied to Highland Council for permission for the change of use at William Hill in Queensgate, Inverness.

According to a supporting statement, which was submitted as part of the planning application, the Category C Listed building has been a feature of the high street for many years.

The applicant is in the process of finalising leasing arrangements in order to transform it into what is described as a "high-end licensed adult gaming centre for over 18s only" with a variety of gaming machines.

The report states: "This proposal should be seen as a positive diversification of use that fits perfectly with council policy that aims to invigorate city centre business, footfall, diversity and tourist engagement."

According to the document the applicant will make no changes to the exterior fabric of the building other than new signs and there are no internal elements of heritage importance.

It concludes: "The applicant has proven success in this field of business."
