A loyalist march passed through the centre of Inverness at the weekend in the first event of its kind for two years.

Organised by the Inverness Campsie Club, which last marched in the coty in 2017, it required several city roads to be closed off for on Saturday afternoon.

The club is part of the Apprentice Boys of Derry .

Police reported no disturbances taking place in connection with the event but not everyone was happy that it had taken place at all.

Local resident Dr Ross Barnett contacted the Inverness Courier to describe how he had been blocked in his home as a result of the road closures.

“That this anachronism has gained a following in modern Inverness is a shame on all of us,” he said.

“They have no historic presence in our secular city.

“They are a net drain on resources thanks to the requirement that police must follow their every move and close roads to traffic.”
