Thousands of Inverness properties were impacted.

Specialist engineers have returned the main valves which manage flows through a strategic water main on the south-west side of Inverness to normal operation.

The valves play a crucial role in supplying the water network that serves some areas of Inverness, including Drummond, Holm, Crown and Kinmylies. Issues with their performance caused disruption to the water supply for thousands of properties over the weekend and yesterday morning.

After refurbishment of one of the valves was carried out on Sunday, specialist engineers were on site yesterday afternoon for further investigations and to complete complex work to rebuild and return a second valve to operation.

Following their work, the valves on the strategic water main have been returned to full operation and interim arrangements that were in place yesterday to minimise risk of further disruption are no longer required.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise once again to customers in Inverness who have experienced disruption to their water supply over recent days as a result of this issue.

“Following work carried out by specialist engineers yesterday afternoon and evening, we are satisfied that the valves are able to operate to their full capacity again.

“Customers who may have continued to experience reduced water pressure at times of high demand yesterday should now see their service return to normal. Our team will continue to run with an enhanced monitoring of the water network over the coming days and we will remain ready to respond if there are any further issues.”
