Team Love Cheer (TLC) have made their American dream come true as they qualified for Florida competition The Summit.

The Inverness cheerleading organisation’s Youth Hiphop Passion team pulled it out of the bag at a Future Cheer competition in Glasgow to get through to the prestigious event, which takes place in summer 2023.

They did one high-energy dance as they moved in sync to a mash up of popular hiphop songs with help from ADC Camps and Choreo.

Head coach and owner of TLC, Kerri Love, said that “it’s a dream come true” to get a “bid” – an invitation to compete.

She continued: “I’m still in shock. We’ve talked about this a lot. This is our first-ever bid for TLC. We are delighted for the kids and we see that they love it and we are just excited for next year!

“For their age group the ultimate goal is to summit in Florida.”

The team, which ranges from ages 10-13, beat 257 other dances to get into the winning spot.

Ms Love, who is so proud of her dancers, has always said that this is what TLC has aimed for, and that the team are making history after being the first dancers selected.

During lockdown, they took no breaks and trained over Zoom in their bedrooms and living rooms. It was tough going, but Kerri said they never gave up.

“This team have been together for the last two to three years.

“In lockdown we trained on Zoom calls and didn’t take any time off. It was hard in lockdown. We knew how good the girls were and the goal was always to go to Summit.

“By the time lockdown ended they moved up an age group. But we’ve not taken a break. They train once a week and they’ve done really well this season winning their competitions.”

Next year the team, made up of 15 dancers, will travel to Florida. Making it a reality will prompt a lot of fundraising for travel, studios and entry fees.

They will continue to work hard in preparation.

Ms Love said: “We will prepare with more training – we’ve got people coming up to do more classes on hiphop and the girls are just going to do what they do, which is come in and work hard and take it all on board.”

The Summit takes place between April 27-30 next year at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
