Alcohol and electronics stolen from Inverness shops

The theft of £35.50 worth of alcohol and electrical items from two Inverness stores cost a Smithton man a £380 fine.

But 34-year-old James Mackay of Murray Terrace was also ordered by Sheriff Sara Matheson to pay Marks and Spencer and Poundland in High Street, Inverness compensation to the value of the goods he stole.

The two shoplifting offences which Mackay admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court took place on June 15 last year.

Defence solicitor advocate Clare Russell said that her client had managed to beat the booze for some time beforehand but had had a relapse last year.
