Airline Loganair has issued an apology as Inverness air passengers faced more travel woes today.

The flight from Inverness to Manchester was due to leave at 6.40am but left three hours late resulting in some passengers missing planned connecting flights to other destinations.

It comes in the wake of recent disruption for passengers travelling to and from the Highlands on various airlines including easyJet, prompting some to question the reliability of air services.

A spokesperson for Loganair said: "We can confirm this morning’s Inverness to Manchester flight was unfortunately delayed.

"Loganair apologised to customers for the disruption and all passengers affected have been rebooked and will travel today."

One affected passenger and her husband travelling to the USA had to swap their onward flight.

"We really appreciate the help of staff at Inverness Airport on getting us on this flight but it has meant that my husband and I can no longer sit together and myself as a nervous flyer find this extremely difficult and stressful," she said.

"To say there has been more than a few tears is an understatement."

She speculated that it was due to staffing difficulties but said it was very irritating and disappointing not to be able to count on a service from the local airport.

"The airline knew of these issues well in advance so why couldn’t they have given us some prior notice?" she added.

The cross-party Scottish Affairs Committee has written to airports and airlines demanding an explanation over widespread flight delays and last-minute cancellations between Scottish airports, including Inverness, and London.
