A documentary adventure film maker walked around his garden for 24 hours to raise funds for charity.

Calum Maclean (31) raised more than £3000 for Highland Hospice after opting for the endurance challenge as a way to keep busy during lockdown.

Mr Maclean had initially set himself a fundraising target of £1500 but has raised £3354 so far.

Well known as a film-maker and keen advocate of open water swimming, the 78km round the garden challenge was the second endurance test Mr Maclean has put himself through during the coronavirus pandemic.

Two weeks ago he completed a marathon in his garden.

The BBC Alba TV presenter said: "After my garden marathon I thought, what comes next?

"Same thing – only harder. Twenty-four hours walking around the house.

He continued: "It was quite a challenge. During the walk I managed to keep in touch with people, and I even took part in a weekly quiz."

He also invited friends, some of whom are athletes, to virtually complete two hours of the walk with him as he went.

One of his companions was Shona Beveridge, who also lives in Inverness.

Mr MacLean said: "Shona can't leave her house and garden during lockdown as she is part of the shielded group but is walking a marathon in her garden over six weeks. She has Niemann-Pick Type C and is raising money for Niemann-Pick UK."

During the walk, Mr Maclean kept a record of how he was feeling at each stage of the gruelling task.

"I did the marathon earlier in the lockdown, and I hadn't thought about raising any money by doing it.

"But when I decided to do the walk around the garden for 24 hours, I thought I would try and raise cash if I could. My dad's cousin is involved with Highland Hospice and I know of the good work that it does, so I decided to donate anything raised to them."

Afterwards he said: "Think this is definitely a 'never again' kind of activity!"
