Active travel designs developed for Raigmore Interchange and Riverside Way, Inverness have been given the go ahead.
Cllr Ian Brown, the City of Inverness and Area Leader, welcomed the decisions and said: “These decisions made by councillors today will have a positive impact on the lives of many.
"These two projects at Raigmore and Riverside will complement the Inverness City Active Travel Network supporting sustainable travel of walking, wheeling and cycling while contributing to the Council’s response to the climate and ecological emergency."
Councillors have noted the outcomes of a public consultation and engagement exercise and have agreed that technical design and construction can now take place in early 2023.
The redesign of Raigmore Interchange and Riverside Way is being made possible through £2.46 million of Scottish Government funding to undertake public consultation on design options and construct schemes that favour walking, wheeling and cycling.
£1.32 million has been secured to design and construct a permanent solution on Riverside Way which greatly enhances the existing temporary arrangement that has been in place since summer 2020.
A report to councillors said: “Public feedback supports the Riverside Way as a fantastic piece of infrastructure which enables non-motorised users of all ages to independently access the many leisure facilities in the Bught Park area and beyond through walking, wheeling or cycling.”
At Raigmore Interchange £1.14 million of Scottish Government funding will improve non-motorised user transport provision.
Developed designs which have been produced for both Raigmore Interchange and Riverside Way will now be progressed to technical design and construction phases commencing in Spring 2023.
