A 50-year old man suffered life threatening injuries after being struck by a large 4X4 as he walked on the Inverness to Loch Ness road not far from Holm Roundabout in Inverness today. (Tuesday)

The collision involved a grey BMW 5 being driven towards Inverness while the man was heading towards Dores.

After being treated at the scene for around 30minutes, he was taken to Raigmore Hospital by road ambulance.

Police Scotland said he was being treated for serious injuries and is deemed to be in a life threatening condition. The female driver of the BMW wasn’t injured.

The road was closed until around 2.30pm to allow a police investigation to take place.

Police also launched an appeal for anyone who witnessed the man walking on the B862 in the vicinity of Holm in the direction of Dores to make contact on 101.

Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the accident.

Police, fire and ambulance service along with the Inverness based air ambulance attended after 999 calls were received about 9.45am.

The car involved stopped in the middle of the road and damage could be seen to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

A paramedic from the helimed, which landed in a field close to the scene, assisted other ambulance personnel and firefighters in treating the injured man at the scene before he was removed to hospital.

Diversions were in place during the road closure.
