Two people had to be taken to hospital following a crash on the A96 this afternoon.

There was a build up of heavy traffic in the area with the road partially blocked in both directions following the collision.

The incident was between Raigmore and Nairn, at the A9039, around 2.45pm.

Police were on the scene directing vehicles and motorists were advised to avoid the area due to the heavy build up of traffic in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Officers were called to the report of a two vehicle road traffic crash on the A96 near to the junction with the B9039 around 2.45pm on Wednesday, 31 March.

"Two people have been taken to hospital. The vehicles have been recovered and the road fully reopened around 4.35pm."
