Crash brings A96 traffic chaos

A TWO vehicle crash brought rush hour chaos to Inverness this morning.

A van and a car collided on the A96 Inverness to Nairn road at the Barn Church Road junction near Balloch, leading to major tailbacks in both directions.

Emergency crews from the fire, police and ambulance attended, and both drivers were conveyed to Raigmore Hospital with injures said to be not life threatening.

A fire brigade spokesman said they arrived at the scene at 7.10am and administered basic first aid to both drivers until the ambulance service arrive a few minutes later. Neither driver was trapped.

A police spokesman said it was understood neither driver was seriously injured.

They managed to open one lane east bound towards Nairn by 8.35am and the A96 was fully open shortly before 9am.

Earlier today police attended a one vehcile accident at Bunchrew on the Inverness to Beauly old A9 road at about 6.23am where a car had left the road.

The woman driver escaped injury and was able to get out of the car unaided.
