UPDATE: Road reopens after A96 collision between Inverness and Nairn

TRAFFIC Scotland have confirmed that the A96 between Inverness and Nairn has been reopened.

The trunk road saw heavy traffic congestion after a collision near Newton of Petty, between Culloden and Tornagrain at around 11am prompted a full closure of the road.

Two people were treated on the scene according to a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson, who have amended their first statement which said that two people were taken to hospital.

They said: “We received a call at 10.43 to attend a road traffic collision at Newton of Petty on the A96. We dispatched a resource and two patients were treated at the scene.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 10.38am on Wednesday, 25 January to reports of a road traffic collision on the A96, near Newton of Petty, Inverness.

"Operations Control mobilised five appliances to the scene, where firefighters were met by a collision involving five vehicles.

"Crews worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.30am on Wednesday, 25 January, police were called to a report of a road crash involving four vehicles on the A96 near Dalcross. Officers attended and the vehicles were recovered."
